L-3 Communications Engineer - Field 1 (GSE Technician)- JM OCONUS in Afghanistan
Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repair, overhaul/rebuild as required both powered and non-powered ground support equipment (GSE) systems and components. Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation. Work is performed on a variety of aircraft ground support platforms, such as aircraft power carts, aircraft movement vehicles, ground aircraft air conditioners, and heaters. The classification requires a thorough knowledge of the mechanical, electrical makeup and operation of both powered and non-powered GSE. Accountable for the removal, disassemble, repair, clean, treatment for corrosion as required, reassemble, and reinstallation of GSE accessories and components. Must be familiar with and capable of operating complex troubleshooting, testing and repair equipment such as, but not limited to, load banks, impedance bridges, multi-meters and flow meter panels. May require dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations. Operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles and other automotive vehicles used by on site personnel. Responsible for coordinating and executing facilities maintenance and support functions; supports the preventative maintenance checks and services (PMCS) for the site as directed by the Facility Manager. Provides 24/7 electrical, HVAC, and facility repairs (e.g., Heavy / Light Generators, Automatic Transfer Switches, Power Distribution Box, HVAC units, living quarters, offices, etc.) when necessary to ensure site facilities are safe and properly functioning /operational. Provides information required for Daily Status Report identifying completed and/or pending works to the Facility Manager, including recommendations needed to improve current or future operations. Complies with established safety procedures and operations manuals for the equipment. He or she ensures compliance with government and program directives and policies. May be required to support operational or sustainment tasks unrelated to the above job description.
Three (3) years equipment mechanic work experience performing similar functions as described above is required. Formal technical civilian or military training in maintenance and repair of automotive or GSE equipment is preferred. The classification requires a current driver's license, US Passport and DOD Secret security clearance before hire.
Must be able to work shifts as assigned and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team if required.
Must be in good physical condition, and capable of completing/passing a required physical exam and CRC course prior to OCONUS deployment. The classification requires being able to work in the established work/living environment, and work shift schedules as assigned 7 days a week, 12 hours a day to support mission requirements. Experience in the use of common hand and special tools/testers as required for GSE maintenance is required.
