Job Title:Senior Field Service Technician
Operates and maintains SATCOM equipment at remote sites in Southwest Asia. Installs VSATs and configures and troubleshoots satellite modems.
Designs, develops, tests and evaluates networks or network infrastructure and applies knowledge of IA policies, controls and regulations. Performs analyses of system operations. Applies knowledge of and experience in the operations of hardware systems and components. Conducts fault detection, isolation, and correction of hardware systems and individual components or cable infrastructure. Duties may include routine system maintenance and analysis functions including: hardware configurations; adding, removing and replacing hardware components; use of hardware and software diagnostic testing tools; and cable infrastructure installation and maintenance. Provides technical training and assistance to junior level personnel. May supervise other personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for providing a variety of complex technical support for maintenance support, repairs, modification, equipment setup and testing, and formal/informal training of customer personnel
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues by utilizing drawings and technical documentation
Conduct repairs and/or modifications using a variety of hand tools and test equipment
Operate and maintain satellite communication terminals
Provide expertise on Land Mobile VSAT systems
Assist in planning and installing VSAT systems and the subsequent network operating behind the VSAT
Assist in planning for satellite transitions, cutovers and site configurations
Maintain inventories for site equipment including test equipment
Ensure site cleanliness and serviceability of all support equipment
Assist other project personnel with performing helpdesk type activities including troubleshooting
Document and communicate network and systems event status using established systems and business practices
Provide timely notification and escalation of problems as required by procedure
Understand and use signal flow and network diagrams

Sixadditionalyears of related experience may substitute for the degree requirement
Experience includes five of the following areas: system operations, engineering, design, installation, repair analysis, quality assurance, troubleshooting or installation and repair of telecommunications systems and infrastructure to applicable military and I3MP standards
May be required to meet requirements of 8570.01M
Active SECRET security clearance and meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Will be subject to a Government security investigation.
*Education: *High school diploma or GED. Formal electronics training from a technical school, class A or B military school in electronics or communications, or four (4) year electronics apprentice program. Formal electronics training to include installation tasks, soldering, cable dressing, cable tray, conduit, and
*Experience: *Eight (8) years of practical experience to include electronics repair, maintenance, installation and checkout. Two (2) years experience to include supervision and shop practices. Three (3) years practical experience to include electronics repair and installation, and six (6) years experience with the one of the following: electronic security systems, LAN/WAN installs, infrastructure upgrades, Navy ship/shore installs, Information Assurance Knowledge Management, staff/consultant, or other C4ISR/IT tasks.
Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret or higher level security clearance required.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
IP gateway technologies (Cisco)
Two (2) years experience programming and operating iDirect, Linkway or Comtech modems
Experience in general satellite network operations or field services requirements
Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must meet overseas medical deployment qualifications
