Job Title: Cisco Unified Communications Engineer – Engineer III Communications
The Unified Communications Engineer works closely with other technology professionals to monitor network, evaluate impact and troubleshoot problems to implement solutions, and assist in the optimization associated with systems on all voice and data communication issues. Directs or serves as a mentor to less experienced staff. Provides expertise and guidance on issues related to VoIP needs that may cover contact center management applications, internal infrastructure support systems, carrier services support, and any other adjunct contact and reporting applications. Remote and onsite support for our multiple call centers and locations is also required.
Assists deployment projects by gathering requirements, designing and implementation VoIP solutions
Programs and configures Cisco CM 7.x and higher with advanced knowledge of VMWare and Cisco Unified Computing System integration
Builds and implements new Cisco VoIP solutions as needed including video and audio conferencing
Acts as lead to troubleshoot connectivity issues to peripheral equipment such as phones, gateways, fax, analog, video, etc.
Works with Network eEgineers to troubleshoot complex issues involving VoIP, VoIP interfacing applications and other converged technologies
Engineers, designs, plans, lays out, and configures communication systems and services including but not limited to Cisco systems
Maintains and administers systems including but not limited to Cisco CUCM, Unity Connection, Jabber, CIPC. CER, CDR, Webex, E-Fax
Proficiency with Cisco Call Manager, IM Presence. Unity Voicemail, Call Center Infrastructure, Cisco AQM
Proficiency with VMware ESX, XML Gateways, LAN and SAN Switching, Storage technologies (iSCSI on Netapp and Nimble platform)
Maintains and administers voicemail, call recordings, and CDR reporting as needed
Interacts with users and application developers to define requirements and expectations of new and existing telecommunications systems
Runs advanced show commands and demonstrates a solid understanding of PRIs, FXS ports, and dial peers
Write configurations with dial peers, translation rules, SCCP, SRST, SIP, H.323, MGCP
Troubleshoots concepts and assists networking in fixing voice-related issues
Writes configurations and applies to voice equipment
Serves as an escalation point for levels 1 and 2 issues for internal IT staff
Develops and documents standards, guidelines and training for associated technologies
Trains and mentors team members and other IT staff and/or non-centralized workforce
Upgrades network hardware and software components
Create implementation plans and builds out sites unassisted
Recommends and evaluates highly available voice implementation solutions; makes recommendations to address capacity constraints and performance issues
Utilizes tools efficiently such as BAT, RTMT, DNA, command line, backup/restore, installation and configuration of peripheral applications such as PLM, Unity, CER, Meeting place, Webex, Jabber, IPC, video phones and endpoints
Installs and tests all relevant software and hardware. Provides proof of concept and may act as a Project Manager or lead on implementations.
Adds, deletes and manipulates phones using advanced techniques. Responsible for SIP based communications, protocols and standards.
Evaluates and recommends highly available voice implementation solutions; makes recommendations to address capacity constraints and performance issues.
Additional duties as assigned
BS/CS/Business degree plus five years experience in a network engineering or telecommunications support environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have experience and feel comfortable working within complex situations communicating respectfully and professionally, leading the customer to the best desired outcome
Must have good analytic and decision making skills creating an environment as a trusted advisor
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) required; Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) level certification or higher preferred
Expert-level command of IOS and be able to lead technical discussions about features and functionality of projects and immediately turn that around into reality for the customer
Expert-level knowledge of Cisco Unified Communication Manager, Cisco Unity Express, and Cisco Presence Server
Demonstrated experience working with minimal direct supervision
Demonstrated consulting skills and customer facing experience
Food presentation skills and abilities
Active TS/SCI with CI polygraph and ability to obtain and maintain FSP
