Ideal Innovations, Inc. Firearm/Toolmark Examiner/Laboratory Management Mentor in Kabul and Herat, Afghanistan
Duties: Serve as senior consultant to the local Afghan firearm and toolmark examiners on questions of classification, quality control, identifications, and other technical matters concerning firearm and toolmark examination. Serve as instructor and mentor to new and current local Afghan firearm and toolmark personnel. Work with and assist the other mentors (Chemical Exam, Document and Media Exploitation and Latent Print) to achieve and maintain a high level of productivity. Review, develop and implement internal and external operational procedures to enhance overall forensic program effectiveness. Interact and confer with Afghan military, police and other related program personnel to identify, develop, refine and implement adequate operational processes and procedures. Identify current and future supply, equipment, and personnel needs. Identify training needs. Periodically review (QC) output to ensure accuracy and integrity. Verify and or confirm firearm and toolmark identifications. Other duties as identified by the Forensic Mentorship Program Manager.
Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree or eight (8) years related work experience along with the following:
Must have been formally trained in firearms and toolmarks examination at an American Society Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) or ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in an accredited laboratory conducting a full range of firearms and toolmarks work, including conducting examinations of lead and other metal fragments, bullets, ammunition components; conducting shot pattern and gunshot residue examination; conducting trajectory analysis; photographing firearms and related evidence
Be Association of Firearms and Toolmarks Examiners certified
Must have testified as an expert witness in either US State or Federal Court
Must have experience in the collection, preservation, and processing of evidence and event reconstruction; must possess working knowledge of the IBIS (NIBIN) system
Must be a member in good standing of the Association of Firearms and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE)
Must possess five (5) years of experience as an instructor, teacher, or briefing senior officials
Possess computer skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, and Photoshop, and can plan, organize, build and present briefings.
Must be able to meet the following demands:
US Government background/personnel security requirements and can maintain those requirements
Successfully complete pre-deployment training and fitness requirements specified by the US Department of Defense for working overseas
Be eligible and willing to carry government issued firearms
Lift 70 lbs. to a working height of 48 inches
General office and laboratory duties/functions Location: Ministry of Interior (MOI), Kabul and Herat, Afghanistan Billeting Location: HKIA, Kabul, and Camp Arena, Herat, Afghanistan, with secure transportation to and from work location. Clearance: Secret
